YURC 2017
View this email in your browser
On behalf of the Yale Undergraduate Research Association (YURA), I would like to announce the first annual, national undergraduate research conference at Yale University, the 2017 Yale Undergraduate Research Conference!
As a student organization, YURA’s mission is to inspire, integrate, and support undergraduate research across disciplines. We are seeking student applications from national colleges and universities, like Columbia, from which the YURA team will select 90 undergraduate poster presenters and 10 plenary speakers. Research spanning the humanities, social sciences, and STEM is welcome! In addition, the two-day conference will feature esteemed keynote speakers from the Yale community and panel workshops on continuing education and careers after college.
The conference will take place on Saturday and Sunday, February 11-12th, 2017at the Omni New Haven Hotel and will run from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. Our application portal will be open until December 8th, 2016.
We would greatly appreciate if you would share this opportunity with research students at Columbia through our conference website:
If someone else might be better suited to help us reach Columbia student researchers, we would greatly appreciate if you would direct us to them. If you have any questions concerning the conference, please contact us at or me, personally, at

Audit-palooza in Sulzberger tomorrow afternoon!

Seniors! Come to a seniors-only event tomorrow, Thursday, 11/10, from 4pm-6pm, in Sulzberger Quad Lab B.

What's this event, you ask? I'm calling it Audit-Palooza! Come use the lab computers to think for a few minutes about your degree progress, the courses you've taken, and those you still might need to take in order to ensure you graduate on your timeline!

Snacks will be available, and I will be on hand to answer questions. Bring a friend, bring your laptop if you wish, but most importantly, bring your curiosity and a sense of openness to taking some classes you may not have ever thought about taking before.

Come help yourself move on from the election -- think about the future, YOUR future, and the things in it you can control: like which classes to take next semester.

See you tomorrow, 4-6pm -- come whenever you want during those 2 hours, it's like an open house.

Wishing you some sunshine from my heart to yours,
Dean Friedman

Yes, it will be the same day as Columbia Commencement. Although it might be a long day of celebration, it will be great for families who come from far and near to participate in both ceremonies.
